Ideal Internet Settings

Best internet settings for Animal Crossing New Horizons Multiplayer

Hello! If you are here, you are going to play some Animal Crossing Multiplayer! This works in conjunction with the Nintendo Switch Online service. You can follow this guide to ensure you have the best internet settings possible for your Switch. But to play Animal Crossing multiplayer online you'll need that service for this information to apply. This guide will go over Nat Type, Download Speed, and Upload Speed.

NAT TYPE

TLDR: NAT Type is what makes your internet work. There a various NAT Types: 1, 2, 3. However on the Nintendo Switch, NAT Types will appear as A, B, C, D, or F. You need NAT Type A or B in order to play Animal Crossing New Horizons multiplayer. If you try to play with a NAT Type C, D, or F, you either won't be able to connect with other Switches or even crash the Animal Crossing islands you visit. If you don't have the correct NAT Type for multiplayer, you CAN change it by contacting your Internet Provider. Please get help with this if you would like to change your NAT Type.

You can check your NAT Type on your Switch by going to Settings > Internet > Test Connection.

Only visit a Treasure Island or play Animal Crossing New Horizons online if you have NAT Type A or B.

Download & Upload Speed

TLDR: This is how fast your internet is. Download speed is the speed you can download data on your network. Upload speed is the speed you can upload data on your network.

Download and Upload speed is important for playing games on the internet. Video games contain HUGE amounts of data so having an internet speed that can handle all the data fast will make your experience online 100000% more enjoyable. No one likes waiting for apps and websites to load.

You can check your internet speed on your phone, tablet, or computer here: https://www.speedtest.net/

On your Switch, you can check your download and upload speed by going to Settings > Internet > Test Connection.

Ideally, you want a 3 Mbps download speed and 1 Mbps upload speed. For visiting a Treasure Island, you want a slightly higher download and upload speed due to the sheer amount of items dropped on the island. Ideally a 30 Mbps download speed and 8 Mbps upload speed is needed in order to not crash the island.

If your download and upload speeds are not high enough, try getting closer to your router.
